Single Malt Tours in Scotland
Scottish whiskey has been in production for over 300 years, and some of the most famous distilleries in the world are located in Scotland. Single malt scotch is distilled at only one distillery, and is produced with only water and malted barley. Single malt tours of Scotland are scenic and educative, and are usually organized by region, since Scotland is a large country. Does this Spark an idea?

The Lowlands
-
The Lowland malts are known for their light, soft flavors. The Scottish Lowlands are home to many of Scotland's most famous cities, such as Glasgow and Edinburgh, making it an ideal place to begin and end a single malt tour of the whole of Scotland. However, if your tour can only accommodate one area of Scotland, the Lowlands are probably not the place to go for a single malt tour, since there are only three working distilleries in this region: Glenkinchie, Auchtenoshan and Bladnoch.
The Highlands
-
The Scottish Highlands take up a large portion of Scotland, and feature cities such as Aberdeen and Inverness. Additionally, the Highlands is home to many famous single malt distilleries, including Talisker, Glenmorangie, The Speyside, Loch Lomond and Oban.

Speyside
-
The Speyside is located in the northeast of the Scottish Highlands. Over half of the Scottish distilleries are found in this small area, making it a top priority on a single malt tour. Some of the most famous Speyside varieties include the Glenlivet, Macallan, Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Cragganmore and Ardmore.
Islay
-
There are eight distilleries to be found on the island of Islay, including Laphroaig, Bowmore, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. The single malts on Islay are very distinctive and unique, making it an ideal location for a shorter single malt tour. A honeymoon tour of Islay and its distilleries would be a romantic and interesting getaway.
Campbeltown
-
Although Campbeltown was once home to over 30 distilleries, there are now only two that remain open to the public: Springbank and Glen Gyle. Glen Scotia is also still in production, but the distillery is not open for tours.
