Supernatural Games for Halloween

Some people believe that Halloween is the time when ghosts return from the spirit world. That's why people like to play supernatural and psychic games at Halloween. If you're having a party, supernatural games for Halloween can entertain your guests--or just plain creep them out. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Ouija Board

    • A ouija board is a tool that you can use to contact the spirit world. It is a board that has the letters of the alphabet written on it, in addition to the words "yes," "no" and "goodbye." Two players put their fingers on a pointer--called a planchette--that glides around the board. When you contact a spirit in the room, the spirit moves the planchette to answer questions. It's easiest to answer yes or no questions.

    Bloody Mary

    • In the Bloody Mary game, you must go into the bathroom with the lights out--though some versions require you bring a candle with you--and chant the name "Bloody Mary" while looking in the mirror. Some say that you need to chant it just three times, while others say that it should be 100 times. There are also variations in the phrasing, such as "Mary Worth" or "I stole your baby Bloody Mary." After chanting her name, the witch of Bloody Mary is supposed to appear in the mirror. Be careful though--some say that she'll tear your eyes out or pull you into the mirror.

    Psychic Games

    • Select one person to be the "sender" of information. This person must visualize something that everyone agrees upon--such as a color or a number. Everyone else must write down their guess. The person then reveals what they were thinking and you'll see how many people got it right. You can also play a similar game where one person leaves the room and the others select one person out of the group. When the first person returns, he stands in the middle of the circle and everyone focuses on thinking about the chosen person. Feeling the energy, the person in the middle should be able to determine who everyone is thinking about.

    Spoon Bending

    • An act made famous by Uri Geller is the act of spoon bending--bending spoons (or forks) using your mind more than force. This can work better in a party situation, where the excitement adds to the energy. Guests choose a spoon that they feel will bend for them. Then, everyone focuses energy on his spoon, rubbing it slightly and thinking that it will bend. Abruptly, guests should change the spot of focus--such as outside the window--and shout, "Bend! Bend!" and the spoon should bend.

Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board

    • This game requires at least six people. One person lies down and the others arrange themselves around her body, with one person at the head, one at each side of the upper body and one at each side of the lower body. They place just two fingers from each hand under the person's body. Everyone except the person lying down chants, "Light as a feather, stiff as a board" and tries to lift the lying person. Incredibly, the person is easy to lift. In some versions of this game, the lying person has "died" and the person that's sitting at her head must start by giving a funeral of sorts.
