Scotland Whiskey Tours

Whisky is predominantly associated with Scotland. It is a fine alcoholic beverage distilled from grain. For whiskey to be called Scotch whiskey, it has to conform to certain conditions. It must be distilled at a Scottish distillery using malted barley and water. It must not have an alcoholic strength above 94.8 percent by volume, so that it retains the flavor of its ingredients and the cask that it was stored in. Whisky has to be matured in Scotland in oak casks, and many whiskies get much of their flavor from the casks during maturation. Whisky must mature for at least 3 years. Caramel coloring is the only ingredient that can be added. The word whisky is derived from a Gaelic term and means "water of life."

  1. Whisky Tours Scotland

    • Whisky Tours Scotland offer four-day and seven-day tours. Experienced drivers and guides conduct the tour. Sometimes they can arrange visits to distilleries that are not normally open to the general public. Distillery visits include a tour, tasting and the chance to purchase the product, and they generally take two hours. This allows for, at most, three distillery visits per day. Tours are for small select groups and are tailored to suit the requests of guests. Enjoy the beautiful and often spectacular scenery of Scotland during travel between distilleries. Accommodation is arranged in bed and breakfast establishments or 3-star hotels, depending on the requirements of the group. Whisky Tours Scotland specialize in creating bespoke tours based around favorite malts and the area of Scotland that a group might want to visit.

Note that contact with Whisky Tours Scotland is by fax and email only. They will reply with their telephone number.

The tour takes in the castle, which is open to the public, and visitors can view the art treasures, furnishings and collection of arms, all to the skirl of bagpipes. In nearby Pitlochry is the Blair Athol Distillery, one of the oldest in Scotland. After a guided tour of the distillery, guests are treated to a complimentary dram of the product. The distillery has a shop where the fine whisky it produces can be purchased.
