From Floor to ceiling
-
A knight-decorated children's room calls for rich grass, or green carpeting or rugs on the floor. Walls can continue a meadow or forest effect with blue skies and puffy white clouds on the upper walls and ceiling. Drape fabric streamers or banners in medieval bright colors from either a central point in the ceiling or along the walls close to ceiling height. Hang pointed banners or fabric valances and curtains. Use fabric paint or appliqué to add heraldry-themed designs or shields and crests to banners.
Beds
-
Beds with a knight theme or castle design come in many price ranges. Order one of the exquisitely designed and painted bunk bed and playhouse creations from LuxuryLamb.com if your budget can accommodate the expense. A knight's castle loft bed is a bit more budget-friendly. Or build your own bunk bed system, complete with fabric curtains and a ladder.
For bedding, continue the forest theme. Remember that quilts were invented for use under a knight's shining armor, which became blistering hot in summer months and freezing cold during the winter. Quilted clothing protected the knight's skin from metal armor. Quilts as bed coverings work splendidly in a knight-decorated children's room.

Accent Pieces

To add knightly flavor to a child's room, add a growth chart or vertical chart listing the rules a page, knight or squire must follow. To be a true, perfect, gentle knight, one had to pay attention to the rules. A knight had to be able to read, sing, write, compose poetry, dance, joust, fight and follow the rules of chivalry and courtly manners to the letter. Writing modern adaptations of the rules of the castle on wall charts is bound to please the budding knight and his mother. Accessorize with crowns and fake jewels, stuffed unicorns, lions and dragons. Use stones--some with swords--and stepping stones.
Furniture
-
Construct a magical cave for the modern television screen and computer monitor from cardboard boxes or artificial trees and curtains. Place an assortment of knight-themed books on the shelf. Use shelf edging painted with medieval symbols or designs. Let the edging hang down from each shelf about six inches.
No child's room is complete without a desk. Neither is Camelot complete without a round table. Use a small round table and several small chairs as seating for visiting knights. A checkerboard vinyl floor covering would continue the theme. Nearby old rocking horses can graze.
