Using a clothesline to dry you laundry can really save you some money on your energy bill. Foregoing the dryer can also help save the planet because you're reducing your energy consumption. Many of us, however, just don't have the space for a traditional clothesline. Fortunately, you can choose among several clothesline alternatives.

A clothing rack has a metal or plastic frame with bars to hang laundry on. You can fold them for easy storage and use them indoors or outdoors. Clothing racks are also called dryer racks and garment racks.
-
You can also dry your laundry on a clothing rod. Put the clothes on hangers and hang them on the clothing rod in your closet or a portable pressure-mounted clothing rod. The clothes need to be evenly spaced so they dry. You can also use clothespins to hang socks and smaller items from hangers on the rod. You can also hang things from your shower rod using the same methods.
-
You can use an outside umbrella clothesline, which functions just like a straight clothesline. An umbrella clothesline differs from a straight clothesline because it is freestanding and takes up less space. For additional space saving, you can fold the umbrella clothesline's rack into its support pole when it's not in use.
