Lego Indiana Jones Birthday Party Ideas

Indiana Jones is a heroic figure who kids love to emulate. And what kid doesn't love to play with Legos? Host a Lego Indiana Jones party for your child's birthday, and he and his guests will have the chance to act like heroes as they encounter snakes, hunt for treasure, and handle icky things like eyeballs and monkey brains. Throw in some games with Indiana Jones Lego sets, and the kids will have a great time they won't soon forget.

    1. Invitations

      • Send guests a decorative invitation they can hang up in their rooms. Print 8-1/2 x 11-inch Lego Indiana Jones posters from Lego.com and write the party information on the back, roll them up and tie with a piece of twine. Your child can deliver them in person or you can mail them in mailing tubes.

You can also print your own invitations by cutting and pasting an interesting map into a Word document and typing the party information on the sheet. After you print it out, lightly brush tea or coffee over the map with a basting brush to "age" it, then slightly burn the edges to make it look worn. You can then roll and tie it the same way you would the posters, or fold the corners into the center to make a fold-out map and seal it with a few drops of sealing wax.

      Games

      • Set up plastic tubs of sand in which you've buried Lego pieces that make up a Lego Indiana Jones set. Have the party guests perform an "archeological" dig with their hands, small shovels or spoons to find the Lego pieces, then work together to assemble the model. (Provide the picture or instructions for the model once all of the pieces are found.) Another idea is to hide a plastic crystal skull in the yard, then split the guests into two teams. Each team is given a treasure map to follow to find the skull.

Give the kids a chance to test out their lasso skills. Place a sawhorse in the backyard and let each guest try to lasso it with a rope that has a big loop tied on the end; the child who gets the closest or actually lassos the sawhorse wins a prize. Or play a game with slimy foods such as peeled grapes, cold spaghetti, cold scrambled eggs and gelatin in covered bowls. Have the kids feel the food without seeing it, then guess what each is. For a quieter table game, create a hidden message game for the kids to decode.

      Birthday Cake

      • Create a Lego block cake. Decorate it with rubber snakes and spiders, crumbled brown sugar or graham crackers (to simulate dirt), and an Indiana Jones action figure. Or create a sheet cake decorated with an Indiana Jones cake kit. Cupcakes decorated with spiders and other bugs work well, too.

      Party Favors

      • Prepare goody bags by aging brown paper lunch sacks. Brush the bags lightly with coffee or tea and carefully burn the opening edge of the bag. Buy sticker paper from an office supply store and download sticker sheets from the Lego Indiana Jones website. Include a sheet of stickers in the goody bags along with Lego Indiana Jones key rings or magnets, little rubber spider rings, gummy rats, decoder rings and toy snakes.
