Gothic Bedroom Makeover Ideas

The Gothic style is a popular one for many teens and adults. It makes sense that the style also finds its way into bedrooms, since they are personal spaces. Whether you want a touch of the Gothic style or you want a full goth room, there are several decorating options. Pick the ideas that best fit your budget and style preferences to create a customized goth bedroom.

    1. Colors

      • Black, gray and red are popular colors that fit the Gothic style. Black is often considered the main goth color, but it doesn't make an ideal wall color. The room will feel very closed in and smaller, and it will be very difficult to paint over in the future. Choosing gray as the wall color is a more feasible option for most people. The black and red colors fill in the other accents and decor in the themed bedroom.

      Furniture

      • A medieval-style set of bedroom furniture helps create the Gothic feel. Either wood or iron furniture is appropriate for this purpose. Gargoyle statues attached to the bedposts transform a plain wood bed frame to fit the goth bedroom. Other bedroom furniture should follow the Gothic medieval structure so it doesn't look out of place in the bedroom.

      Walls

      • A painted stone look simulates castle walls in a Gothic bedroom. You can use a stencil, but irregular bricks add to the customized look of the wall mural. Carry the brick pattern to the doors, painting archways above them to create a more authentic castle feeling. Deep purple or red fabrics draped on the walls also add to the Gothic feeling in the room. The same rich fabrics work well as window coverings, either draped along the top or in panels covering the windows.

      Accents

      • The accents of any bedroom help create the theme and allow your personality to shine through. Many different interests fall under the Gothic umbrella, so choose accents that work with your specific Gothic style. Candles on sturdy iron candle holders are a good place to start with the Gothic theme. Mirrors to reflect the candle light also work well in the room. Choose mirrors with frames that keep with the Gothic architectural style. Skulls, books about vampires, iron crosses and other relevant decor are also possibilities to round out the decoration in the goth bedroom.
