Remotes used to feature simple channel and volume functions, and now technological advances have made them more advanced and useful. The DirecTV remote in particular is full of special functions for a DirecTV satellite television system. The remote may seem confusing at first, but after a little use and explanation, you can understand how the whole thing operates.
The top of the remote features standard navigation controls for use on a DVD player, VCR and DirecTV's own DVR. The large play button is surrounded by the other controls.
Two special navigation buttons are just for use with the DVR. The "Repeat" button plays 30 seconds of a clip on a loop. The "Jump Ahead" button automatically skips 30 seconds of the pre-recorded program.
The DirecTV remote is compatible with DirecTV set-top boxes, a television, and two audio/video components. Choose the component to control by sliding the selector at the top of the remote near the sensor.
The middle of the remote features access to DirecTV menu functions. The "Guide" button loads the channel listings and the "Active" button loads DirecTV's exclusive interactive channel. The "List" button brings up the collection of recorded shows and the "Exit" button returns to normal television while in any of those menu.
The "Info" button supplies instant information on any show. If you press it twice, you will load more detailed information including future showings, television rating and whether the episode is new or a repeat.
The remote features four colored buttons without labels. The blue button loads an mini-guide at the bottom of the screen, the red button is used to delete recorded shows and the green and yellow buttons are used to navigate quickly through the guide.
Navigating through a guide, the "Active" channel, and other options in the menu is done with the arrows on the center of the remote. There is a large "Select" button in the center used make selections. These arrows and select button are also used with DirecTV's Game Channel.
