The Advantages of Having an SUV

Save

Sports utility vehicles (SUVs) have several advantages over traditional cars. For one thing, an SUV has the seating capacity of a large vehicle such as a station wagon, but the power and chassis of a full size truck. This combination of enhanced space and power has made the SUV a popular vehicle of choice.

Size

  • SUVs provide more width and height than normal-sized vehicles. People often associate the vehicle's larger frame with a feeling of safety; the SUV's extra height allows the driver to have an enhanced field of vision.

Handling

  • Many SUVs have four-wheel drive, which allows them to gain better traction while driving in rain and snow. Four-wheel-drive vehicles handle better in slick conditions than autos with two-wheel drive, because all four wheels receive torque from the engine, allowing them all to move. Due to the large amount of space between the chassis and the road, it's possible to drive in varied road conditions without damaging the vehicle.

Convenience

  • SUVs can haul a boat or trailer and transport surfboards or bicycles on top of the vehicle with ease. The SUV also has plenty of available seating to allow several people to fit comfortably inside while still able to hold supplies and store gear in the back portion of the vehicle.
