Ideas for Painting Designs on Trinket Boxes Only

Trinket boxes are small boxes that come in a variety of sizes and shapes. They may have a lid that is hinged or lifts off. Plain or old trinket boxes can be given new life with a few coats of paint and designs added to them.
Sand and Stencil Painted
-
A sand and stencil painted trinket box takes about an hour to complete. You will need a plain trinket box, acrylic paint in the colors you choose, sand, stencils that will fit the box, felt for the inside, glue and paint brushes. First, clean the box to make sure there is no debris on the outside or inside. If you want to line the inside bottom of the trinket box with felt, set the trinket box on the felt and trace around it. Cut it out and glue the felt into the bottom of the trinket box. After this, you can paint the entire trinket box in the paint you choose, then add sand to the paint and paint the trinket box again. Once the trinket box is dry, carefully place the stencil on the trinket box and paint within the stencil.
Eggshell Painted
-
The eggshell painted trinket box takes a couple days to complete because you need to allow the decoupage to completely dry overnight before you can apply the paint. You will need clean eggshells and a spray-on paint in any color you choose. If there is hardware on your trinket box, such as hinges or a clasp, remove these with a screwdriver before applying the eggshells and paint. Decoupage the entire trinket box with the eggshells. Crushing them into smaller pieces will work best. Once you have completely covered the entire trinket box, minus the holes for the hardware, let the box dry overnight. Once dry, use the spray-on paint to cover the entire box, let dry and then apply a second coat. Lastly, reattach the hardware.
Apricot Rose Painted
-
The apricot rose painted trinket box has apricot colored roses as well as leaves and designs painted on the lid and sides of the trinket box. You will need several colors of paint, including white, peach, orange, clay, three shades of green, stone and lace. You will also need a flat, detail paintbrush, shading paintbrush, wood sealer, varnish, tack cloth and rose and leaf stencils. Use the tack cloth to remove any debris, spray on the wood sealer and let dry. Then use the white paint to add a base coat to the entire trinket box. Using the stencils and the other paint colors, begin painting your roses and designs onto the top and sides of the trinket box. Add shading and finer details with the detail paintbrush. Once dry, spray on two coats of the varnish, letting the first coat dry before adding the second.
