Beginner Gifts
-
There are a few different beginner gifts you can make with fused glass. These are simple to create and do not take a lot of time to make--around two to three hours. Gifts to consider are business card holders, barrettes, ornaments, tiles, soap dishes and cabochons. Cabochons are jewelry pendents made with scrap glass. Making pendants in a donut shape leaves an opening to attach a chain or chord through. With any of these fused glass gifts, you will need to use small pieces of 4-by-4-inch glass, as well as scrap glass, to create designs and patterns. Each fused glass gift requires different tools.
Intermediate Gifts
-
Once you have learned the technique of fusing glass, you can make other gifts that are a bit more difficult. These include broken glass art pieces, etching pieces made into tiles and charms, picture frames, hearts, lace, photo-fused glass, wind chimes, marbles and decorative slumping bottles. With these fused glass gift projects you can use additional techniques, such as casting, cold combing, crackle, embellishments and stamping pieces.

Advanced Gifts
-
Advanced fused glass gifts will require you to have additional tools to make each piece, including tools such as glass saws; shaping, pulling, and glass cutting tools; and glass molds. The techniques are bit more difficult as the projects become more detailed and complicated, yet the results are more varied and interesting. Some fused glass gifts that can be made are bracelets, pins, inclusion pieces, picture frame pendents, vases, pots, slumping bowls, weaves and vitrigraphs. Vitrigraph fused glass is a technique that involves suspending the kiln so that the hot glass hangs down and you pull and maneuver the glass. Along with these fused glass gifts, you can also use such techniques as slumping, drop rings, freezing and fusing, and embossing.
