Movie Night Birthday Party Ideas
Movie nights are always fun and a well planned theme can always spark some of the best memories. Centering a theme around a genre or series of movies allows you to focus on the visuals and ideas. Depending on what you decide on, a theme can be as simple or involved as you want. Consider who the birthday party is for: children, adults, families and so on. Also take into account the likes and dislikes of the special birthday person and the people they would want to be there. Would they like dressing up in costume? Are they concerned with the foods of the party more or the activities? Thinking of the person at the center of attention is the key. Does this Spark an idea?

Black & White Movie Night
-
If your special someone has tastes in the history of film or history and isn't particularly fanciful, a black and white movie night party can be fun. Old films give you wiggle room with subject matter. You could choose films such as Laurel & Hardy or titles from Bing Crosby's "Road Series" for levity or darker selections from the film noir period in film history for a mysterious or high brow ambiance. Guests can come dressed in old-fashioned clothes or suits. This allows for there to be a theme without your guests feeling they need to dress too far from what may be considered normal dress. You can also serve martinis (virgin and regular) to add to thematic flare of the evening. Consider playing big band music and other prohibition era tunes to add another dimension during movie interludes.
80s Movie Night
-
This is something that is fun and light. Movies like the "The Breakfast Club," "Caddyshack", "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" and other classics of the era are good centerpieces. Girls can come with big crimped hair and side pony tails while all the boys can feather or jheri curl their hair. Of course be sure there is lots of neon colors: sweaters, bracelets, leggings, plates and anything else you can think of. For in between times, be sure there is some Billy Idol, Flock of Seagulls or the Smiths for your guests to get in the mood. This idea can work as kitschy fun for kids or adults.

Harry Potter Movie Night
-
The Harry Potter series continues to be a popular idea and theme as the movies slowly continue to come out every year or two. This theme allows for many different party options. Guests can come dressed as a beloved character or any fantastic creature that could be a part of the series. For food you can have bowls of various jelly beans (a prominent treat throughout the movies) and a cake depicting something from the movie or the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft seal. Of course you can choose any of the movies from the series to play throughout the party.
