Paladium Window Covering Ideas

Palladium windows, also known as Venetian windows, feature three windows where the middle window is arched and taller than the windows on either side. These windows were originally designed and used in Italy before being used by the English, who brought the style to the United States. Palladium windows add grace, beauty and light to homes, yet they are challenging to dress when you need privacy or to block light causing glare on a television set or computer screen. Learning which window coverings work best will help you enjoy your windows and add privacy.

Hung from the Ceiling

Curtains hung from the ceiling provide height and privacy while still allowing you to enjoy your palladium window when you do not need to block out the light. Attach a curtain rod above your palladium window. If possible, extend the rod a few feet on either side of the window. Hang lightweight curtains that can be pushed to either side of your window when you do not need privacy. When the curtains are closed, your palladium window will be completely covered, blocking any unwanted light while providing privacy.

Arched Rods

Arched rods allow you to enjoy the shape of your palladium window even when your curtains are drawn. Purchase a bendable rod to install over the center of the window. You can either extend the arch over the entire window or install straight rods on the two smaller rectangular windows. Lightweight panels can be hung and pulled to the side when you want to let light into your space.

Oversize Shades

Remote-operated oversize shades can be purchased in light blocking varieties and can be custom made to fit any window. Install a shade that is slightly wider than your palladium window, about 8 inches above the top of the arch. When you need privacy, you can use the remote control to let the shade down and block out all of the outside light. When you want to let light in, putting the shade back up is as simple as pushing a button.

Decorative Screens

Large decorative screens can be purchased in a variety of colors and styles that can coordinate with any home decor. If you have a large space that would allow you to store the screen next to the palladium window when not in use, consider purchasing specialty screens that are the height of your window. When you need privacy, position the decorative screens in front of your window so that others cannot see into your home.
