Ideas to Paint the Kitchen Walls & Cabinets

To update the look and feel of a kitchen without fully remodeling or spending a great deal of money, painting the walls and cabinets can be an effective option. When choosing a color scheme for your kitchen, it is important to consider your goals. Is the goal to brighten a dark space or to create a cozier, more comfortable atmosphere for dining? Once an objective is identified, choosing an exact color palate will be much easier.
Dining Atmosphere

Eat-in kitchens, where the dining table is in the same space as the cooking area, must not only provide a functional place to work, they must also be a stimulating yet relaxing place to eat and entertain. Try using combinations of warm yellows, tans and burnt oranges as the base colors of walls cabinets, with darker reds and browns as trim. These colors can subconsciously make people feel hungry, which is why restaurants tend to use them.

Using stencil accents is an effective way of creating a theme kitchen, while still maintaining elegance. Try painting walls and cabinets in shades of cream, and then using garden or farm stencils strategically. Popular stencils include pumpkins, squash, leaves and birds, which all enhance a sense of a plentiful atmosphere. Use flower stencils around windows, vine stencils around ceiling trim, grain and produce stencils around the pantry, and fish stencils around the sink.
Neutrals

Neutral walls, cabinets and trim are an effective way of keeping the attention on the food and family that the kitchen plays host to. For something simple and timeless that will not clash, use warm tans, beiges, white and browns. Use lighter colors for bases and darker colors for trim. With this color scheme, your appliances and tiling will never clash, no matter the colors.
