  1. When it comes to purchasing a car, you do not need to limit yourself to buying a new vehicle straight off the lot, although it may often be the first option that pops into your head. There are many other ways to secure a car, from buying a new one to placing a bid on one at an auction, to not even buying a car, but using public transportation or riding your bicycle.
  2. Use Car

  3. Instead of purchasing a brand new car, look into buying a used car. A used car can function as if it were new, but at a fraction of the price. There are probably several different used car facilities around your area. In addition, many automakers that sell new cars will have a used car lot on hand. Check out their selection, and, who knows, maybe you'll find the perfect car for a fraction of the price you would have paid for a new car.
  4. Car Auction

  5. When a car is impounded from an owner who failed to pay traffic violations or seized by the bank due to bankruptcy filing, the car will oftentimes be auctioned off to the highest bidder. At these auctions, you may be able to learn about the previous history of the car and you will probably be able to buy the car at a price far below its actual value (depending on how many individuals show up for the auction).
  6. Bike

  7. If you live close to work, you may want to use a bicycle for transportation. Not only will this save you hundreds of dollars in fuel costs every year, but you'll give yourself exercise as well. Of course, this alternative may not work for everyone, especially for those who have children, but if you live by yourself and don't need to haul large items from the grocery store, this may be the perfect solution.
  8. Public Transportation

  9. It will cost more than your bike, but if you live in a larger city, you may never need to purchase a new car. With public buses and subways, you not only will save money on gas and car maintenance, but you'll be helping to reduce pollution. Again, this may not be for everyone, but for individuals living in cities like New York and Chicago, public transportation may be the answer
