Most webmail services can be configured to work with Outlook.

Hotmail is an online email service offered by Microsoft that has lost some popularity since the emergence of Google's Gmail. Although Microsoft designed Hotmail to be used via a Web browser, you can also use Hotmail in Microsoft's Outlook client, or in any email client, by using the correct incoming and outgoing server settings.

In order to set up your Hotmail email service in Microsoft Outlook you will need to open Outlook, click on "Tools" and then click on "Email Accounts." Select "Add a new e-mail account" and click "Next." Select "POP3" and then enter your name, email address and password, all of which are provided by Hotmail.

Incoming Server Settings

Enter the following incoming server settings in Outlook for your Hotmail account: Incoming mail server: POP3.live.com Mail server port: 995.

Make sure that, "Logon using Secure Password Authentification - SPA" is checked.

Outgoing Mail Server

The outgoing mail server for Hotmail, also called the SMTP server is smtp.live.com. The outgoing mail server port for Hotmail is 25, but if you encounter problems using port 25 due to your Internet Service Provider, you can also use port 587. Additionally, make sure that you have TLS enabled.

Finishing Setup

In order to finish the setup in Microsoft Outlook, click "Test Settings" to make sure that you have entered all of your information correctly. The test will confirm that your email will work. Click "Next" to complete your email setup. Remember that you can also still use your Hotmail account through Microsoft's website and you can change some of your account settings through that website.
