Educational grants can fund a student's ASE certification program at accredited educational institutions. Students pursuing an Automotive Service Excellence certification can complete the required coursework in 10 months. Educational institutions that offer ASE certification to mechanical students often have their own financial aid departments that grant educational funding to qualifying students pursuing ASE certification. Coursework for certification can include upper-level engine performance and electrical work, as well as computer literacy and workplace relations.

Automotive Service Excellence certifications are a professional designation awarded by institutions following the guidelines of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. As of July 2011, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence reported that more than 350,000 automotive professionals in the United States possessed an ASE certification. Once a student completes the required coursework in automotive technology or a related field, he's qualified to take the ASE certification exam, which he must successfully pass to earn certification.
