ASE Mechanic Grants

Professional automobile mechanics are able to improve their ability to draw business through professional certifications. One of the automobile repair industry's basic certifications held by auto mechanics working in the U.S. is the Automotive Service Excellence, or ASE, certification. Grant funding can help students interested in auto repair pay for certification courses toward an ASE certification.

  1. ASE Education

    • Educational grants can fund a student's ASE certification program at accredited educational institutions. Students pursuing an Automotive Service Excellence certification can complete the required coursework in 10 months. Educational institutions that offer ASE certification to mechanical students often have their own financial aid departments that grant educational funding to qualifying students pursuing ASE certification. Coursework for certification can include upper-level engine performance and electrical work, as well as computer literacy and workplace relations.

    Financial Aid

    • ASE coursework at colleges, certification institutes and other accredited educational programs can be covered by various grant sources. ASE students should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to become eligible for federal funds through the U.S. Department of Education. Public educational funding for ASE certification may also be available through state educational agencies. Certain schools also offer scholarship programs specific to students in an Automotive Service Excellence program, such as the Automotive Technician Scholarship available through the Southwest Applied Technology College.

    ASE Educational Programs

    • Grant funding from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence funds various educational programs preparing individuals for ASE mechanic certification. The Automotive Youth Education Systems internship program helps students find work with automotive retail services in entry-level or internship positions. Educational training and ASE certification for educational programs is also available through the nonprofit National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation.

    ASE Certification

    • Automotive Service Excellence certifications are a professional designation awarded by institutions following the guidelines of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. As of July 2011, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence reported that more than 350,000 automotive professionals in the United States possessed an ASE certification. Once a student completes the required coursework in automotive technology or a related field, he's qualified to take the ASE certification exam, which he must successfully pass to earn certification.
