Scholarships for Anime Lovers
Since anime is a form of Japanese animation, one of the best ways for an anime lover to get money for college is to look for scholarships focusing on animation. Many anime enthusiasts have schooling in other forms of animation, and having a scholarship to an animation program provides an ideal environment for an anime lover to get proficient in both Japanese animation techniques, as well as alternative styles.

Warner Bros.
-
One of the most well-known scholarships for those involved with anime and animation is the Warner Bros. Animation/Hanna-Barbera Honorship. The scholarship is for high school students interested in pursuing a career in animation. The scholarship award is for $10,000 over the course of the student's animation studies. Qualifications for the award are maintaining a 3.0 grade point average, showing genuine financial need and demonstrating passion and talent for animation. In addition, the winner of the scholarship has a chance to work as a summer intern for four summers at Warner Bros. studio in California during the course of the university studies.
UCLA
-
Scholarships are available from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television for individuals attending the school and interested in pursuing careers in animation. There are several available, ranging from the Jerry M. Cox Memorial Award, which is a scholarship based on merit -- as opposed to need -- to the Vincent E. Defrances Scholarship in Animation, which is also merit-based.

Foreign Students
-
There are scholarships available for foreign students looking to attend college in the U.S. The State Department set up the Fulbright Scholarship, allowing foreign students to apply for American funding of their education. This means that an anime lover living in Japan can apply for the Fulbright scholarship, which allows the scholarship money to be used in any field of study. One influential animation director, proficient in both animation and anime techniques, is Jose Garcia Moreno, who is a Fulbright scholarship recipient and later went on to teach animation techniques at the Los Angeles School of Film and Television.
Private Organizations
-
Many animation organizations offer scholarships to members. In some cases, such as with the Phyllis Craig Scholarship, presented by the Women in Animation organization, part of the scholarship is a membership within the organization. This particular scholarship is geared toward helping young people, both male and female, achieve their dreams of getting into a career of animation. This scholarship is open to anyone interested in studying animation, including students interested in learning anime.
