Slices of cucumbers are a popular eye remedy.

Puffy eyes can leave you looking unkempt, tired and unable to put your best face forward. Puffy eyes can be caused by a number of things, including lack of sleep or too much sleep, alcohol, too much salt in your diet, allergies and even stress. If you find yourself dealing with puffy eyes and need to get back to looking your best, there are many homemade solutions you can try to alleviate those swollen peepers. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Cucumber Slices

    • Cucumber slices are a popular and soothing remedy for puffy eyes. Cucumbers are mostly water and thus work as a somewhat all-natural ice pack. Lay slices on the eyes and let the cooling sensation reduce the swelling as you enjoy the crisp, clean scent of cucumbers. Refrigerate the cucumbers for at least 30 minutes prior to using.

    Potatoes

    • Raw potatoes are another easy, homemade puffiness remedy. Cool in the refrigerator for 30 minutes and use a couple of slices as you would a cucumber. You could also grate a chilled potato into a thick paste to be placed atop the eyes. Rinse your eyes after using the paste to remove any bits of potato stuck around the eye area.

    Rose Water

    • Rose water is a healing remedy that has a few benefits. Soaking a wash cloth in chilled rose water and placing it atop closed eyes will help reduce puffiness while also providing a lovely scent to enjoy. Rose water is also an effective, light astringent, so it can help soak up oil around the eyes, leaving them feeling clean and refreshed.

    Green Tea

    • Green tea is a soothing beverage and puff reducer. Make two cups of green tea, then allow the tea bags to cool or place them in the freezer for five minutes to speed up the process. Lay the tea bags over your eyes and relax. Green tea will cool your eyes, thus reducing swelling, but it also contains tannins, which have been found to treat puffiness. If you can find green tea with caffeine, use these, as caffeine can stimulate the eye area and help reduce water retention, which causes swelling.
