Pet talent trees can add survivability, dps or crowd control abilities.

In "World of Warcraft," just as hunters have talent trees, so too do pets. Each pet belongs to one of three pet trees, ferocity, tenacity or cunning, and has a corresponding talent tree. For example, cats are ferocity pets, and so they can be allocated only points in the ferocity tree. Each tree gives your pet various special characteristics and abilities. Tame one pet of each type so that you can use the pet abilities needed for specific situations.

  1. Leveling Pets and Allocating Pet Talents

    • Hunter pets level as you gain levels. If you tame a low-level pet, it will instantly level up to within three levels of your character. Pets gain up to a maximum of 17 talent points at level 85.

    Cunning Pets

    • Cunning pets are extremely versatile. They can be used for player versus player (PvP), raids and solo questing. Individual cunning pet classes have special abilities in addition to the characteristics shared across the entire talent tree, including crowd control abilities very useful in PvP. You can select points from the cunning tree that increase pet survivability, boost damage per second (dps) for the pet or the hunter, enable the pet to break crowd control effects and regenerate your hunter's focus. For marksman and survival hunters, cunning pets give similar dps to ferocity pets.

    Ferocity Pets

    • Ferocity pets are pure dps pets and somewhat less survivable than either tenacity or cunning pets. Their high dps still makes them viable for most solo questing, although they are primarily designed for dungeons or raiding. Most talents in the ferocity tree are intended as straight dps boosts. Ferocity pets bring pet class dps-boosting abilities as well as the ones shared across the tree.

    Tenacity Pets

    • Tenacity pets are designed as tanks for solo questing, although skilled beast mastery hunters can use pets as tanks in some dungeon and raid situations. The tenacity tree has many points that improve pet survivability as well as some that increase dps. The pet class special abilities associated with tenacity pets include crowd control and damage mitigation.

    Hunter Pet Training
