What to Put in Wedding Out-of-Town Baskets
Many couples find it customary to provide out-of-town wedding guests with a gift basket. This gift basket is usually presented to the guest at the time of check-in at the hotel. Your guests will be appreciative of the thoughtful gift. Fill the baskets to the brim with specialized items for them to enjoy.

Local Newspaper
-
Your wedding guests would enjoy having a local newspaper on hand. This gives them information on what's going on in the area. It provides weather, local news, sports, business and editorials. Some newspapers even have coupons to local restaurants and entertainment venues, which your guests may find helpful. A newspaper can double as both helpful tool and a souvenir for your wedding guests.
Food and Beverages
-
Include food and beverages in each wedding basket. Food from local sources are good picks, such as cheese produced from the regional dairy farm or wine from a nearby vineyard. These items give something for wedding guests to snack on during their stay. You can also put in food items that match the season. If you are having a spring or summer wedding, include homemade grown and canned veggies; for autumn, a bag of fresh apples; for a winter wedding, homemade soup is much appreciated.

Souvenirs
-
Souvenirs are a special addition to an out-of-town wedding guest basket. T-shirts, coffee mugs, figurines, shot glasses and hats are some examples of souvenirs. If you live in a town that has its own specialized store, find something from that store to add to your baskets. If they are staying in Atlanta, put a Coca-Cola bottle in the basket. If your guests are staying in San Fransisco, include some Ghirardelli Chocolates.
Tickets to Local Museums, Sites, and Gift Cards to Restuarants
-
Surprise your wedding guests with a tickets to a museum or amusement park. Water parks, concerts, dinner shows or comedy clubs are some good suggestions. This allows them to enjoy some entertainment during their stay. If that's too expensive for your budget, consider movie passes or gift cards to near-by restaurants. Don't forget to include brochures about the site so guests can read up on the destination before going.
Contact Information
-
A postcard with contact information of someone in the wedding party should be included in each basket. The contact should be someone who has few responsibilities in other areas of the wedding. This prevents one person from getting bogged down and overwhelmed. Ask a brother-in-law or father of the groom to be on call for out-of-town wedding guests. Put this person's phone number and email address on the contact card.
