Spirit Week is an excellent time for students to show off their school spirit with a variety of themes and costume ideas. If your school is doing Celebrity Day during Spirit Week, you have plenty of ideas from which to choose. From dressing up to contests, your school will have a blast on Celebrity Day if you plan creative activities everyone can enjoy.
Have a pep rally and provide a large assortment of costumes and wigs. On strips of paper, write down the names of a dozen well-known comedy films and ask for groups of four to come to the floor. Give each group a strip and two minutes to assemble costumes to fit the characters in their movie. Each group should then perform a well-known scene from their movie and let the audience try to guess what it is. Or, write down famously feuding celebrity pairs, such as Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie or Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston. Have pairs of students create a short, humorous skit wherein the two meet unexpectedly. Creative students can make this activity hilarious and entertaining for everyone.
Hang up pictures of celebrities with blurred faces throughout the school. Make them as challenging as possible and with very few clues in the picture. Number them and have students write down their guesses as to the celebrities' identity and drop them in a big box in the common area. Award prizes for correct guesses and a grand prize for a student who gets all the answers right. You could also have students create an online tribute to a favorite celebrity, such as a social media account, a webpage or blog. Allow a week to work on it, then view them all on a projection screen at a pep rally on Celebrity Day. Give prizes for first, second and third place.
Have students come to school on Celebrity Day dressed as a version of their favorite celebrity. Encourage students to be as traditional or creative as they like; they can even dress as their favorite celebrities in a movie role. Roll out a long red carpet at the gym entrance and have the costumed students walk it like celebrities. Have the yearbook staff on hand to take plenty of photos just like the paparazzi.
Give students a taste of class and intrigue by turning Celebrity Day into a tribute to Old Hollywood. Put students in groups of 10 or 15 and provide art supplies and photos of old movies. Have students turn the gym into the movie sets from classics such as "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "Gone With the Wind" and "Casablanca." Set up cardboard cutouts of famous old stars like Clark Gable, Audrey Hepburn and Bette Davis. Have an Old Hollywood party at the end of Celebrity Day and show classic film clips on a projection screen.
