Hindi is a language spoken in India and is related to Urudu, which is the language spoken in Pakistan. For educational purposes, students can do various projects on the Hindi language while incorporating aspects of Indian culture into their projects as well. Translation projects, playwriting in Hindi and creating a visual art project using the Hindi alphabet are interesting project ideas.
Students can translate English phrases and individual words into Hindi and post them on a class blog or website. They can also make flash cards for learning Hindi words and phrases and play the Jeopardy game as a class for a class presentation using the flash cards.
Students can paint or draw Hindu gods and goddesses in a large scale on canvas, poster board or fabric. Prior to painting and drawing, students can research the particular gods or goddesses they are painting and present their information to the class after the research and painting is completed.
Theatrical Production or Short Film
Students can research Hindi culture and write a short play or video tape a short film involving classmates with parts of the dialogue -- if not the entire play -- written in Hindi language. Other aspects of the play such as sets, costumes and music can be researched by students and then produced for the play. Research on the Bollywood Film movement can be done as well prior to putting on the theatrical production or short film.
Students can research and construct traditional Indian garments and present them as a fashion show for the class, reading off the descriptions of each models' outfit in Hindi. Traditional Indian music can be playing on an iPod or CD player during the Indian fashion show.
