Hamburger Helper Ideas

Save

Hamburger Helper is a brand of boxed pastas and sauces that create a full meal when paired with cooked hamburger meat. Although the packaged food can be eaten as a meal alone, it can also be a way to make an even better meal in a short amount of time. Since there are so many varieties of Hamburger Helper itself, the recipes that can be prepared with it are endless.

Soup

  • Hamburger Helper can make it easy to prepare a hearty soup in a short amount of time. To serve six people, combine 1 lb. of cooked ground meat (although beef is suggested, feel free to substitute with any kind you'd like), 1/2 cup chopped onion, one 14.5-oz can of tomatoes, 1 cup corn, 1 cup chopped zucchini, 5 cups water and 1 cup Parmesan cheese in a large pot. Stir in the sauce from one box of lasagna-style Hamburger Helper. Bring all of the ingredients to a boil. Turn down the heat and let cook for 10 minutes. Stir in the pasta from the Hamburger Helper and cook for an additional 10 minutes or until the pasta is cooked to your taste. This recipe is especially good because it can easily be multiplied to feed more people or changed to include even more vegetables. Best of all, it can be done in under an hour.

Mexican

  • Hamburger Helper can also be a quick way to satisfy your craving for Mexican food. Using just 1 lb. of ground hamburger meat, a 1/4 cup chopped onion, 1 1/3 cups hot water, 1 cup chunky style salsa, 1/2 cup milk, six 6-inch tortillas, 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese and one package of Cheesy Nacho Hamburger Helper, you can create a delicious tortilla casserole. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large pan, brown the onions and meat together. Drain out any excess grease and stir in water, milk, Hamburger Helper and salsa. Use whichever salsa you prefer. Bring the pan contents to a boil and then reduce heat. Let simmer for about seven minutes or until the pasta is cooked. Spread about 2 cups of your mixture into a baking dish along with about half of your shredded cheese. Cut your six tortillas in half. Lay half of your tortilla pieces on top of the beef mixture. Top this with another layer of beef mixture and then cover with the remaining tortilla pieces. Finish the casserole off with all the remaining beef mixture and cheese. Place into the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the casserole looks heated and the cheese is melted. This recipe serves six as a main course but can be multiplied or changed to suit your needs.

Substitute

  • It's easy to change up your Hamburger Helper meals by just mixing in some of your favorite ingredients. Try using ground chicken, pork, turkey or any other meat you might like. Hamburger Helper can also make it easy to get some extra vegetables into picky eaters by cutting them up and mixing them with a favorite variety.

Lasagna

  • You can also use Hamburger Helper to create a quick and easy no-bake lasagna for five people. Start by cooking 1 lb. of ground beef in a large skillet, then drain out any excess oils. In the same skillet, stir in 2 1/2 cups hot water, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 tsp. dried oregano, 1/4 tsp. garlic and one box of Hamburger Helper Lasagna. Add more of the spices or any addition to your own taste. Bring the mixture to a boil and stir occasionally. Once it has reached a boil, turn down the heat and let simmer while covered for five minutes. Remove cover and stir in about 1/2 cup chopped tomato, one small chopped bell pepper, 1 cup thinly sliced zucchini and 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese. Cover and simmer for an additional five minutes. Remove from the heat and uncover so the sauce can thicken and then serve.
