Ideas for Visitor Packets for a Church Welcome
With the wide variety of churches, it can be difficult to find one that is the right fit. The information a church provides in its welcome packet for visitors can help newcomers determine what the church believes, how it operates, and how to become involved.

Doctrinal Statements
-
A variety of doctrinal statements is helpful. Include a basic explanation of the Gospel for visitors who might be unfamiliar with it. A copy of your church's statement of faith might be helpful for visitors who are familiar with Christianity but not with your denomination. If your church bases its doctrine on longer documents that are difficult to reproduce, such as Presbyterians' 33-chapter Westminster Confession, a short list of recommended reading is useful.
History of the Church
-
Many visitors will be interested in the history of your church. Give them a brief history of the denomination as well as of your congregation. For instance, in an Orthodox Presbyterian Church, you might provide a paragraph about the Protestant Reformation in general, a paragraph about John Knox and Presbyterianism, a paragraph on the influence of J. Gresham Machen, and a paragraph on your local congregation's formation.

Contact Information
-
A welcome letter from the pastor and elders is a good way to personally connect with your visitors. Along with it include the church's contact information: telephone number, physical and mailing addresses, email address and website address. This is also a good place to list current sermon series and educational offerings, and links to podcasts or downloadable sermons and other media selections.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
A set of frequently asked questions can provide answers to things visitors might wonder about. Include answers to questions such as "Do you have nursery facilities?" "What kind of clothing is appropriate to wear to church?" "Do you have devices for the hearing-impaired?" and "May I take Communion?"
List of Ministries
-
Include a monthly calendar of upcoming church events and a list of groups, ministries and other opportunities. Include dates and times. List Sunday school, Sunday morning and evening services, Bible studies, prayer meetings, men's and women's groups, music and drama ministries, activities for children and teenagers, and activities for college or career-age young people and singles. Include the names of group leaders and contact information. Also provide information about food pantries, clothing ministries, and assistance with transportation to and from church.
