The Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular takes place at the Hudson River. In addition to fireworks, fire boats in the river shoot patriotic streams of fire high into the air. The display features approximately 40,000 shells exploding at a rate of more than 1,500 per minute, set off from six barges positioned between 24th and 50th Streets on the Hudson River.

Another July 4th fireworks display that is near New Jersey is the Go 4th on the Bay, located at Great South Bay (West Bay at Bay Shore), in Long Island. According to the event's sponsors, the best and most spectacular viewing would be from the Captree Boat Fleet or your own boat. On land, good viewing would be from most of the Fire Island bay fronts and shorelines from Captree to Islip.

Featuring three days of food, amusements, concerts and other family activities, the festival climaxes with a spectacular world-class fireworks display. Launched from two barge locations on the Navesink River, this display shoots over 10,000 shells, all choreographed to a mix of popular and patriotic songs.

The estimated attendees at New York's Times Square New Year's celebration is one million, with many millions more watching on television as the ball descends and the countdown begins. The event begins around 4:00 p.m. when revelers start to arrive. There are musical performances and countdown events as the clock moves closer to midnight. At the stroke of midnight, confetti is released from the rooftops of buildings throughout Times Square creating a blizzard of color, followed by a fireworks display that mesmerizes the revelers for 15 minutes.
