Many scholarships are available for students of gerontology

Gerontology is the study of aging and age-related problems. As more and more Americans live longer and stay active in their old age, the demand for gerontologists is increasing and there is a huge scope in this field. Many universities and organizations offer scholarships to students pursuing a degree in gerontology.

  1. Scholarships by California State University

    • The Gerontology program at California State University, Fullerton has access to several scholarships through four private donors. The "Beverly and Arnold Miller University Scholarships in Gerontology" and "The Osher Lifelong Learning institute (OLLI) Outstanding Graduate Student Award" are available to graduate students pursuing an education in gerontology. Graduate students may also apply for "The Kirt and Donna Spradlin Scholarships in Gerontology" and "The Mary Lois Ayers Scholarships in Gerontology" These last two scholarships are also available to upper division undergraduate students.

    Scholarships through University of North Texas

    • Students pursuing full-time degrees in Department of Applied Gerontology through the University of North Texas have access to a number of scholarships.These scholarships are provided on a competitive basis and are decided by a scholarship committee comprised of the department faculty. Some of these scholarships are the "Asbury Methodist Services Scholarship"; "Clarence M. Ball Scholarship Fund"; and the "Herbert H. Shore Scholarship for Excellence in Aging Services" which awards one to two scholarships each year.

    Georgia Gerontology Society Scholarship

    • The Georgia Gerontology Society awards two scholarships each year outstanding graduate and undergraduate students committed to the study of gerontology. The Robert P. Wray Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student and the Virginia M. Smyth Scholarship is awarded to a graduate student.

    Other Scholarships

    • Besides the above mentioned universities, a number of other universities and organizations also offer scholarships in gerontology. The Sigma Kappa Foundation offers scholarships to graduate students in gerontology. Gerontology students at the University of Kentucky may apply for the Donovan Scholarship. Other universities offering scholarships in gerontology include Western Michigan University, University of Nevada- Reno and the Georgia State University.
