If you're experiencing problems with your Samsung front-loading dryer not turning, don't despair. Several reasons may account for why a drum might cease to move when the dryer is on. Although you might think you need to replace the entire dryer, chances are that you will just need to swap out a faulty part to fix the problem.

Electrical Problem

Depending on the model year of your Samsung dryer, it has two fuses or two circuit breakers: one that runs the heating element and one that operates the drum. If the drum's fuse blows or the circuit breaker trips, the dryer won't turn even if it heats. See that either the fuses are good or that each of the two dryer's circuits is switched on. Switch out a fuse that appears blown, and reset the breakers if one has flipped off.

Faulty Power Cord

The power cord is what connects your Samsung dryer to the home's electricity supply. Electricity is needed to turn the drum whether you own a gas or electric model. Inspect the power cord for frayed wires or damage. Change out the cord for a new one if needed.

Worn Drum Belt

A dryer's drum turns with the help of a rubber belt. The belt ensures uniform rotation of the drum. If the belt wears, the drum might wobble in the cabinet or not rotate at all. Contact a dryer repair technician to inspect the belt's condition. Ask him to replace the belt if he finds significant wear.

Loose Idler Pulley

The idler pulley is typically located at the rear of a Samsung front-loading dryer. The pulley keeps a certain amount of tension on the drum so it remains aligned as it turns. Refer to your dryer manual for help finding the pulley. After you've located it, check its tension. If it appears loose, adjust it based on instructions in the manual. If the adjustment doesn't correct the problem or the pulley becomes loose again, replace it.

Bad Motor

Samsung front-loading dryers rely on an internal motor that operates the drum. When you select a dryer setting, the motor activates and starts turning the drum so that laundry dries evenly. If the motor malfunctions, the drum won't spin. Consult a dryer repair technician to examine the motor. If it has failed, she likely will recommend that you switch it out for a new one to restore function to the drum.
