How to Unclog Toilets with Hydrogen Peroxide

Rich Quayshaun

Bathrooms are infested with thousands of bacteria germs. This holds especially true for the toilet bowl. Cleaning and maintaining a toilet – or any appliance with a drain pipe – can be a hassle because you have to worry about more than just cleaning and disinfecting it.

A toilet's pipes also need extreme care and, even then, they can become clogged. If your toilet gets clogged, you can both unclog and disinfect it using hydrogen peroxide.

  1. Remove as much water from the toilet at possible using a disposable cup. Take the water from the toilet and transfer it to a large bucket. This will be to avoid overflowing when you flush the toilet later.

  2. Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of vinegar into the toilet. Let the combination settle for about an hour or two.

  3. Flush the toilet and let it finish refilling. Remove as much water from the toilet using the same method as earlier.

  4. Pour 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide down the toilet. Let the solution sit in the toilet for about an hour.

  5. Flush the toilet and check to see if the toilet water goes down as normal. If the water does go down properly, you have unclogged the toilet. If not, repeat the process until the clog disappears.

Warning

If the toilet will not become unclogged after several times, you may need to call a plumber to remove the clog.
