Kids love receiving favorite toys and collectibles in their stockings.

Christmas is full of gift giving. By the time you get around to stuffing your family's stockings, you might feel fresh out of ideas. However, with a little creative thinking and focusing on the age-range of the person whose stocking you're stuffing, you can give stocking stuffers that will be appreciated and will suit the age of the recipient.

  1. For Preschoolers

    • Divide the stocking stuffers of your very young, growing children between items that they will enjoy and supplies that they need. For example, a small, plush cuddly toy will amuse your toddler, while a few new pairs of much-needed socks might also fit the bill. Add some toys that rattle or jingle or, better yet, ones that have a surprise, such as a small jack-in-the-box. Special juice boxes or healthy treats your toddler loves could also make good stocking stuffers. Don't forget the tried-and-true preschool gifts such as magnetic refrigerator letters, flashcards and crayons.

    For Grade Schoolers

    • Children between the ages of 6 and 12 can enjoy a wide variety of gifts as stocking stuffers. Add to a treasured collection of cards, books or action figures. You can also give your grade schooler movie certificates or a gift card to her favorite chain store or amusement park. Be sure to include some playful items such as puppets, card games and puzzles. Don't forget the practical supplies that any school kid needs -- pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, markers and a calculator. Also toss in some winter weather gear like a pair of gloves or mittens and a knit cap.

    For Teens

    • Teens are on the cusp of living life as responsible adults, but already have some grown-up expenses. Stick a gas gift card in the stocking of your driving teen. Stock them up on their favorite shampoos, face washes or shaving creams. Give them gift certificates to their favorite coffee hang-out or CD store. Breath mints and lip balm will also be appreciated. Once you've got life's necessities out of the way, consider reminding your teens of Christmases in the past with stocking stuffers from their childhoods -- classic toys such as Legos, Play-Doh or a yo-yo will make your teen feel like a little kid again.

    For Adults

    • Even adults appreciate the little things a stocking can bring. You can put a Christmas morning smile on your spouse's face by stuffing his stockings with needed goodies or items that are indulgent. For the spouse who works in a home office, give office supplies such as pens, small notepads, paper clips and staples. For a bath-soaking lover, provide a small jar of special salts, an aromatherapy candle or a brand new bath sponge. Consider stuffing the stocking with a gift certificate to her favorite beauty salon or massage therapist. Show how much you love your spouse with some cozy mittens or a special piece of jewelry.
