Hookup Problems in the Motorola DSL Modem Model 2210
The Motorola 2210 is a DSL modem used to give customers access to a high-speed DSL Internet network. If you contract with a DSL Internet provider for Internet service, a service technician will typically install your DSL modem for you. But, for whatever reason, you may find yourself in the position of needing to hook up the 2210 modem on your own, a process that can be completed in a few simple steps.
-
DSL Port
-
The DSL port is the left-most connection port on the back of the modem; this is the port that actually integrates your 2210 modem to your provider's DSL network and provides Internet access. Simply use a standard telephone cord to attach the DSL port on the modem to your DSL-installed telephone outlet. Make sure you are using the phone outlet that has been installed with DSL service, since DSL Internet will not work over a standard telephone port.
Ethernet Port
-
The next port to the right is the Ethernet connection; it attaches the 2210 to either a computer or a router, typically. Simply attach one end of a standard Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port, pushing the plastic connector piece in until you hear a quiet clicking sound, and attach the other end into either the Ethernet port on your computer or on a router or other home-networking device. If you are using a networking device, be sure to use the Ethernet port labeled "Internet" or "WAN," rather than one of the other Ethernet ports.
-
Power Cable
-
The final physical connection to make is the power cable, located on the right-hand side of the modem and to the right of the reset button. Connect the smaller end of the power cable that came with your modem into the modem's AC port, and connect the larger end into an electrical outlet or other electrical source. If you see the lights on the front of the 2210 illuminate, you have connected the AC cord properly.
Other Considerations
-
One way to confirm that you have made all physical connections properly is to observe the lights on the front of the modem after you have attached the power cable. The "Ethernet" light will glow a solid green when the modem has detected the 2210's Ethernet connection; if it is not illuminated at all, there is a problem with the Ethernet connection. The "DSL" and "Internet" lights will both glow solid green when the 2210 has detected a connection to your provider's DSL network, indicated that you have connected the phone line properly into the proper phone outlet.
