Telecommunication Jobs in Education
As personal computers and the Internet have become common household items, many homes have become extensions of the traditional classroom environment, resulting in an increasing amount of telecommunication jobs opening up for people in the education industry, according to Resa Azarmsa in the book "Telecommunications: A Handbook for Educators."

Adult Basic Education
-
Online adult basic education institutes help students to improve basic math, reading, writing and critical thinking skills with the objective of helping them to become more self-sufficient and improve their job skills. These institutes require that teachers interested in sharing their expertise with students have master's degrees in the subjects they would be teaching, master's degrees in teaching or varying amounts of graduate semester hours in the field to be taught. Each institute webpage generally has a section where teachers can verify that particular institute's requirements and can apply for available positions.
High School and College Courses
-
Many online schools and universities offer positions writing course curriculum or teaching. Course writers are required to have experience in specific topics and an ability to break down and explain those topics in a clear, logical and concise manner. Teachers for these high school and college courses are required to have the same qualifications as traditional teachers, to have basic computer skills that will allow them to manage phone or video classroom sessions with students (where this is an option), send and reply to student emails, correct student assignments, and carry out other basic teaching activities.

Foreign Language Instruction
-
Online language institutes provide convenient forums for adults around the world to learn foreign languages. These types of foreign language instruction positions allow teachers to set their own rates per lesson without any fees, with a flexible timetable to choose their own schedule and electronic payments.
Continued Education and Professional Training
-
Many companies offer interactive continued education and professional training courses to prepare professionals for certification exams and skills needed for job advancement in their fields. Teachers of these courses provide lively training sessions, give students preparative exams, provide study aids, answer student questions, organize course materials and provide student certificates. Most of these companies require basic teaching certifications in addition to taking their training programs.
Advantages and Disadvantages
-
Because there is no set of national standards for online institutes, teachers who perform telecommunication work with different educational institutions must take individual training courses with each, which can be very time consuming. Conversely, the flexible rates and schedules make telecommunication jobs a convenient option for stay-at-home moms, teachers looking to pick up side jobs for extra money or others who wish to work at home.
