In addition to offering games on the site, Big Fish provides one-hour trial downloads for Mac and PC users to try before purchasing. The site features a variety of games, including a rich stable of familiar card games, all of which have a story or twist.

Games fall mainly into two categories: familiar solitaire variants, and solitaire versions of casino card games. Big Fish card games usually have a theme or twist that make them feel more like they have a story or an adventure to them. For instance, Pirate Solitaire is a variant of pyramid solitaire that provides coin bonuses for treasure, special event cards, a treasure map that progresses as you increase in level, and other pirate-themed features.

Big Fish provides files for Mac or PC users to download. Customers are then allowed one free hour of game play to see if they enjoy the card game. After the hour is up, the customer may choose to purchase the game for $9.99 (though there are often discounts available) or try a different game. As of June 2011, there are 15 card games to choose from in the Card Games and Board Games category, which also includes casino games like slots and roulette.

Graphics and Sound

Big Fish games are provided by a number of different developers, but they all have a similar look and feel to them that is family friendly, bright, and whimsical. Casino sound effects and cheerful music add to the atmosphere. The game files also automatically resize to use the full screen of the computer for a more immersive experience. Cards are decorated according to the theme of the game.

Online Games

Big Fish also offers card games for online play at no charge, though the amount of complexity and quality of graphic design are diminished compared to its download offerings. The company also makes iPhone and iPod Touch games via the Apple App Store, but as of June 2011, none of those games feature card playing.
