Your dog depends on you for its health, but it can't tell you that. You need to observe signs that the animal needs medical attention. One of these signs is the appearance of bald spots, which are usually followed by some other unsightly signs and peculiar actions that indicate your dog is suffering.
Along with forming bald spots, symptoms of a rash on your dog include pimples, crusty patches on the skin and red spots. The dog could also scratch, lick and bite the rash area because it is itchy. This could lead to an infection if the skin is punctured. Reasons for a rash on your dog could include fleas, particularly if your dog is allergic to them. Much of the damage to the skin is done by the dog itself, as it tries to stop the tiny beasts.
Seborrhea, or dandruff, is a skin disease that causes flaky skin and thin hair in sections of the dog's back. The balding areas might feel oily or dry. Other symptoms include itching, scabs, bumps and pimples. To help your dog, give it warm baths every second day for 10 days, followed by two per week and then one per week. Bathe the animal more frequently if you don't see an improvement. On greasy skin, use shampoo with coal tar, benzoyl peroxice or selenium sulfide.
Mites are another cause of a rash because they burrow into the skin and releases toxins that itch. Demodectic red mange is a particularly challenging mite to get rid of on your dog because it can multiply massively. The disease is nicknamed "red mange" after the exposed skin turns red and forms crusts. Hair loss can occur anywhere on the body and is usually accompanied by a loss of appetite and low energy.
Notifying the closest veterinarian about the status of your pooch could mean the difference between the animal staying on this green earth or being buried in it. Take note of bald spots, vomiting, diarrhea, excess urination, fainting and loss of balance. These mean trouble. So does constipation, difficulty urinating, runny eyes and nose, scratching, discharge from eyes and ears, sores, coughing, sneezing, difficulty breathing, panting spells, shivering, whining, no appetite, weight loss, massive appetite, restlessness, lots of sleep, limping, protecting parts of its body, excessive water intake and white gums.
