Get to the root of your Poligrip Adhesive failure and get back to your daily routine.

Super Poligrip is a zinc-free denture adhesive that securely affixes dentures or partials to your gums for up to 12 hours. These adhesives are designed to immobilize the dentures, allowing you to speak clearly and eat whatever you like. They also help keep out food particles which can cause painful and irritated gums. To achieve the proper hold and wear your dentures comfortably, you will need to apply the adhesive correctly. If you are having issues with your adhesive, it is important to know the causes of the failure. Finding and fixing the underlying problem will allow you to wear your dentures comfortably.

  1. Swollen or Irritated Gums

    • Remove your dentures every night, even if there is adhesive left. Your mouth needs to rest. Wearing dentures with any type of adhesive overnight can cause irritation, as well as painful and swollen gums. You may also have gotten tiny food particles caught in between the dentures and your gums, causing painful rubbing and irritation. Swollen and irritated gums can result in poorly fitted dentures and pain. Use a soft brush and warm water to remove any residue from the dentures. Place the dentures in cool to warm water and allow them to soak overnight. You can also purchase a denture cleaner that works specifically to clean and sanitize your dentures while soaking.

    Oozing Issues

    • Reduce the amount of adhesive you have been using if you experience oozing around your dentures. This is a sign that you are using too much cream. Remove your dentures, then clean and dry them off. Apply a small amount of adhesive in short strips to the underside of your top and bottom dentures, keeping the adhesive away from the edges. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm water to remove any residue, then firmly press the dentures into place. Bite down for two to three seconds to secure the hold.

    Issues Removing Dentures and Residue

    • Swish your mouth thoroughly with warm water. Warm water will help to release the seal on your denture adhesive and make the dentures easier to remove. Grasp the middle of your bottom teeth between your thumb and middle finger, then gently rock the denture back and forth. Take your time and gargle with more warm water to help loosen the adhesive. Remove the denture once it is loose by lifting it up and out. Repeat this process for the top denture. Use a soft brush and warm water to remove the residue once you have removed your dentures. Gently rub your gums in a circular motion, rinse and spit.

    Loose Dentures

    • Make an appointment with your dentist if you find that you are having to apply a lot of adhesive to keep your dentures in place or if you have applied a good amount and your dentures are still loose. After your teeth are removed, your jawbone and gums will constantly change, and over time your dentures will fit differently. Therefore, it is important for you to see a dentist who can realign, properly fit or replace your dentures.
