Objectives for a Babysitting Class
Not everyone has the natural skills to be a babysitter. For some, those skills can be taught in training classes. Classes can be taught by organizations such as the Red Cross or local child daycare facilities. Once you learn the basic skills needed for babysitting, you can do it part time for some extra cash, full time at home, or work in a daycare center.

Leadership
-
Getting respect and having others listen to you is part of leadership. As a babysitter, you will need the child that you are babysitting to respect your directions and follow them. The class will help teach you to communicate with children in a way where you are not trying to replace their parents, but still displaying a level of authority that they respect and listen to when you provide instructions.
First Aid
-
Accidents happen, and sometimes those accidents cause injuries to children you are babysitting. The class will teach you how to care for minor scrapes and bruises. It will also cover more serious injuries that require CPR treatment. Some babysitting classes may include the opportunity to earn your CPR certification, which is important in case a child has a life threatening injury. This will help you aid the child you are babysitting until professional help arrives.

Child Development
-
Children change as they age. What you can expect from a child and how you communicate with him differs as part of this aging process. The child development portion of the class will help you understand the developmental levels of children. Some of these levels include the ability to communicate, reason and complete tasks physically. The class helps you understands the needs of the children that you will be babysitting.
Business Skills
-
As a babysitter, you are operating your own business. One of the objectives of the babysitting class is to teach you how to operate your business. This includes developing a client base, and keeping in touch with your clients for future jobs. It will also discuss how to advertise your services, such as by visiting daycare facilities or schools where students attend. You may be able to volunteer at these locations, developing a relationship with the children and parents to get future jobs. The course will teach budgeting techniques, learning how much to charge and how much money to invest into your babysitting business.
