Places to Rollerblade Near Kennebunkport, Maine
Kennebunkport, a seaside town in southern Maine, is the home of former President George H. W. Bush. It attracts a varied assortment of visitors, including outdoor types who love to hike, bike and rollerblade on the roads leading from Dock Square, the town's center that is punctuated with quaint shops, lovely inns and savvy restaurants. Beaches and trails make the area sport friendly. Kennebunkport does not have any specific routes earmarked for rollerblading but, according to Carol Cook, director for Kennebunkport Parks and Recreations Department, it is not prohibited anywhere.

The Kennebunk Workout

The website for the Chamber of Commerce for Kennebunk and Kennebunkport refer to a string of beaches in the twins towns as the "Kennebunk Workout." This stretch of beaches, connected by sidewalks, is popular among rollerbladers. It provides plenty of scenery including stretches of sandy vistas and glimpses of shorefront homes, inns and bed and breakfasts. The beaches are accessible by car or you can take the free town trolley or even rollerblade in from wherever you are.
Goose Rocks Beach

Goose Rocks Beach, located north of Kennebunkport Villlage, is popular among walkers for its wide three mile expanse, and its surrounding pavement works fine for rollerblading. If you want to park your car you'll need to get a permit, which the Kennebunkport police station issues by the day, week or month.

Parks

Kennebunkport Recreation Program oversees a variety of parks that are suitable for rollerblading, especially if you're a novice wanting to get your balance before doing a long trek. Beachwood Park, located on Beachwood Avenue, has public tennis courts, a basketball court, a playground, and picnic area. It's open from 8 a.m. until sunset. The Park at Crow Hill features an ice-skating area in the winter with a place for picnics and access to walking paths.
The Kennebunkport Loop

The 19.3-mile Kennebunkport Loop, which begins at the intersection of Port Road and School Street in Kennebunkport, offers a scenic tour on primarily minor roads that snake into neighboring Kennebunk, near the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. The loop offers scenic ocean views that include former President Bush's home on Walker Point. You can rollerblade off the route anytime or opt for just a portion of the loop.
