Real estate salespeople assist clients in buying or selling real estate. Often, agents specialize in either assisting buyers or sellers. These professionals spend much of their time meeting with prospective clients, visiting properties, looking at property listings and handling real estate contracts. Agents shoulder significant legal responsibility in handling contracts and advising clients on financial and legal matters of purchasing or selling a property. Consequently, real estate salespeople in Michigan must get a state issued license by taking and passing an exam. If the salesperson does not pass the exam, he must retake it until he gets a passing score.
To obtain a real estate salesperson license in Michigan, you must complete an approved real estate fundamentals that is at least 40 hours long. Once you have completed the class, apply for a real estate license online at Michigan.gov/icola. Register to take the real estate salesperson examination once the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs accepts your application. Once you pass the exam, obtain employment verification from a real estate broker to complete the process and get your real estate license. You have up to one year from the date you pass the exam to find employment and get a license or you must retake the examination.
PSI Exams online administers real estate examinations for the state of Michigan. You will take the exam online at one of the PSI locations throughout Michigan. Exams consist of 110 questions and last for 180 minutes. A $72 examination fee is due when you register to take the exam. You may cancel or reschedule your exam date with at least two days notice without having to pay additional fees.
Verify Failing Score
You must obtain a score of 70 percent or higher to pass the PSI exam. If you fail the exam, you may request a copy of your score report within 30 days of taking the exam. Additionally, you may request to have the exam re-scored to verify the failing score.
Retake the Exam
If you failed the exam, you will have to retake and pass the exam in order to obtain your license. PSI Exams does not mandate a waiting period before retaking the exam. PSI Exams charges $72 retake examination fee. Although you are not required to wait before retaking the exam, you should allow yourself time to study and review the material to ensure a passing score on the retake exam.
