Some parts of the body are prone to sensitivity. This is especially the case for areas in which you remove hair, such as armpits and genitals. Certain deodorants also can cause armpit sensitivity, as the included chemicals are an irritant. There are tips for sensitive armpits that can keep you comfortable and irritation-free.

If you shave your armpits, pay attention to the tools you use. Spend a bit more on razors to get the best ones. Replace disposable razors or blades at least once per week, as shaving with dull blades creates additional irritation. Hair and soap that gets into the blades also deliver bacteria to your armpits. If you can, only shave every other day or even less often. The more you shave your armpits, the more you will deal with sensitive armpits.

The best hair-removal method for sensitive armpits is waxing. It can be painful but is less irritating in comparison to shaving. Since you only have to wax once every four to six weeks, you will not be irritating the skin in the armpit between sessions. For best results, see a professional waxer.

The chemicals from deodorants and antiperspirants can further irritate sensitive armpits, especially when applied immediately after shaving. This can lead to itchy rashes and ingrown hairs. Instead of using over-the-counter deodorant, consult a doctor regarding what to use. If you do not sweat profusely, talcum powder is an alternative.

Sensitive armpits may be the result of fungus in the area. Armpits are moist and warm. Not only can sweat get trapped in the area, but if you do not dry off your armpits well after showering, there can be problems with fungus. Dry armpits thoroughly with a towel after getting wet in order to prevent infection.
