Tools to Make a Spiked Leather Collar

Spiked collars are not for everyone or every occasion. They make a very alternative and loud fashion statement for people in the goth communities. It takes a bit of time and patience with steady hands to make your own spiked collar.

  1. Spikes or Studs

    • Purchase any size spikes or studs; you may need less or more depending on the size you'd like them. There are many different styles to choose from, including large or small, pointed, rounded, metal or colored plastic. The list is almost endless. You can find them at stores like Hot Topic or even in bulk on eBay.

    Leather Collar

    • It may be easier to buy an already assembled plain black collar, or if you choose to, purchase or use a small black leather belt to cut up. Make sure it fits properly and comfortably. If using a belt, measure twice and cut once. You don't want to make any mistakes.

    Tools

    • You'll need some pliers, a hole puncher, screwdriver and some measuring tape. Think of a specific pattern you'd like the studs to be in. Measure and mark spots with a marker. Using the hole puncher, poke out the leather where you marked. Screw your stud and its bottom to the top and underside of the leather collar. Use the pliers to hold the stud in place while screwing on the bottom.

    Decorations

    • You can attach other metal or matching decorations in the middle of the collar for extra originality. There are many designs to choose from, depending on your style, such as skull and crossbones and metal rings. Attach in the same way as the studs.
