Signs to Place on an Outdoor Outhouse
Outhouses are necessary and simple structures used as bathrooms when plumbing is not available. They are commonly found in rustic areas, such as forests, parks or cabins. Give new life to your outhouse and poke fun at their poor reputation with a sign placed on the door. Does this Spark an idea?

Powder Room
-
Outhouses are by nature crude and rustic and designed to suit a simple purpose in a basic way. Poke fun at this simple structure by labeling it with a sign that depicts a flowery and fancy description, which is the complete opposite of what it is in reality. For example, write in an elegant cursive the words "Powder Room," another term meaning bathroom or restroom, on a sign and hang it on the outhouse door. This description will likely evoke a smile out of someone headed to use the structure.
Swimming Pool
-
Outhouses typically have a reputation for being less than appealing and pleasant. Poke fun at this concept with a humorous sign on the door. For example, hang a sign that says "Pool This Way," on the outhouse door, with an arrow pointing inside. Likewise, you could also write on the sign "Hot Tub Inside," or simply "Spa." All of these signs, clearly out of place on an outhouse door, will be a humorous addition to the simple structure.

Graphics
-
Public restrooms are typically labeled with symbols and graphics, typically an outline of a man or a woman to indicate who may use the restroom. Use this concept to develop a sign for your outhouse. In lieu of the outline of a man or a woman, craft a sign with the basic outline of a forest animal, such as a deer, a rabbit, chipmunk or skunk. Let the image stand alone on the sign or combine with outlines of the man and woman typical on restroom doors.
Throne
-
Bathrooms and toilets can often be joking referred to as the "throne." Incorporate this slang term into your outhouse sign. Instead of simply writing "Outhouse" or "Bathroom" on the sign, write the words "Throne" or "Royal Throne," on the sign. You could also personalize it with your family name, such as "Johnson Family Throne." Use rich colors, such as gold, red or purple, in the sign to give it a royal color scheme.
