Pros & Cons About Texting & Relationships
Text messaging, or texting, affects a dating relationship in a variety of ways. There are positive things about it, as well as downfalls that have been noted as texting has become more common among young people and adults alike. However, do the pros outweigh the cons of texting? Furthermore, what is the price of using texting to talk instead of face-to-face communication in relationships? Text messaging in relationships can have both benefits and downfalls for a variety of reasons.

Fun at the Beginning of a Relationship
-
Texting may be fun, enjoyable and beneficial at the beginning of a dating relationship. When two people are getting to know each other and arranging time to hang out, texting is a wonderful way for them to communicate and let each other know what they are doing. Getting a text from her new boyfriend could be the highlight of a girl's day; furthermore, when a guy receives a text from the girl he likes, he may be thrilled and feel happy to be communicating with her, even if it's just through texting.
Eliminates Tone
-
It is very difficult to understand the tone of your sender's voice when you receive one of her text messages. Your girlfriend is probably joking when she says, "I hate you!" after you tease her. In person, this is easy to distinguish; however, if you simply receive a text message with those words, you may be shocked and concerned. Emoticons, or facial expressions in texting such as " :) " or " :( " may assist with communication; however, even then it is difficult to completely understand your date's tone.

Your Partner is Always Available
-
Your boyfriend is always available if you have an emergency or are lonely and just need someone to talk to. This can be beneficial because you get to communicate with each other at times when meeting in person is simply not possible. You can also arrange meetings and dates in a convenient way through texting. Furthermore, if both of you are in the same location and you get separated, a simple text message could help you find each other again.
There is Too Much Contact
-
You may get tired of always hearing from your girlfriend: "Hey, sup?" There might not be that much to talk about after the 75th text message of the day. Furthermore, the texting may be serving as a distraction from your school, work or alone time. You could simply need to focus on what you are doing so that you have more to bring your partner when you see her next. Being able to contact someone at any time is nice, but if you are texting constantly, the cons of constant availability can outweigh the pros.
