What Size does Plywood Come In?
Plywood is a common material used in a variety of building applications, including walls, counters and roofs. Plywood sheets come in numerous sizes and the ideal size for a plywood sheet depends upon the manner in which you want to use it. Though you can find several sizes of plywood readily available at home improvement stores, more customized sizes may have to be special ordered. Does this Spark an idea?

Standard Building Panels
-
Plywood building panels, such as those used in walls, floors and other structural parts of a building, are usually 4-by-8 feet, which is considered the standard size for plywood. Plywood also comes in a number of thicknesses to fit your project needs. Readily available thicknesses range from 1/8-inch up to around ¾-inch.
Smaller and Larger Plywood Sizes
-
Plywood panels can be purchased in pre-cut sizes at most home improvement stores, including 4-by-4 foot, 4-by-2 foot, and 2-by-2 foot. Larger sizes are sometimes available, like 4-by-9 foot or 4-by-10 foot. If you want larger sizes of plywood, you must special order them.

Hardwood Plywoods
-
Hardwood plywoods are similar to standard plywood, and like standard plywood, come in the standard 4-by-8 foot size with some additional sizes readily available. Using hardwood plywood panels comes with its own set of challenges, however, because the panels, like most hardwoods, have visible grains. If you intend to leave hardwood plywoods out in the open, you must be careful to select pieces with the same grain pattern.
Other Shapes
-
Though most people probably think of rectangular-shaped panels when it comes to plywood, plywood can be found in other shapes as well. Round plywood pieces, for instance, can sometimes be found at home improvement stores to be used for tabletops and other craft projects. These plywood pieces are measured by diameter and come in a range of sizes, such as 12, 16, 24 and 36 inches.
