Fabrics
-
Heavy, high-quality fabric is the material of choice for Victorian-style bathroom towels. Damask is also a common Victorian fabric and was originally made from silk, although mixtures of satin and wool are in some damask towels. "Damask" also refers to the style of weaving in a fabric in which a raised design is featured against a smoother, luxurious fabric. According to the Victoriana website, heavy damask towels should be used as bath towels while slightly lightweight fabrics are appropriate for hand towels and very thin fabric is ideal for towels used to clean the face.
Colors
-
Hues like burgundy, navy blue and emerald green are appropriate for Victorian bathroom towels and add noticeably sophisticated color to a bathroom otherwise adorned in understated colors like off-white, ivory or light tan. Soft shades of pink and green are an attractive choice for a bathroom adorned in Victorian flair as well; shades of rose pink and olive green are soft and appealing. Pastel colors like lilac and pistachio green are fitting for the bathroom as well and will blend with more pronounced shades of brown, like cinnamon or light cocoa on the walls.

Accents
-
Elegant accents, like a strip of satin along the hem of the towels, will give them an authentic Victorian look. Embroidered images of flowers like roses or daffodils make lovely additions to hand towels and washcloths; you can take the fabrics to a print shop to have the floral images added in the same color as the towel or in a metallic shade like silver or gold, which are also common in Victorian decorating. Trimming the towels in a neutral-colored lace adds demure appeal to the Victorian bathroom linen.
Display Ideas
-
In keeping with the Victorian decorative scheme, display the towels on racks in silver or platinum colors; cool shades like light green or medium purple are especially attractive against silver hues. Towel racks from the era may also feature ornate carvings at the end in images of flowers or vines. You can also showcase the jewel-toned towels on the bathroom counter. Both light and dark shades of wood were common in the Victorian era, so the ruby red or aubergine towels will either blend with the chocolate brown wood or make a wood counter painted white stand out.
