Furry Art Activities
Puppets, masks and stuffed animals can be fun crafts for kids. To make the crafts more lifelike use craft supplies such as craft puffs and yarn for fur. Kids can use their creativity to turn ordinary craft supplies into furry toys. They can use their imagination when playing with the toys to become forest or jungle animals.

Costumes

Kids can make costumes for playtime or Halloween. Use craft fur to cover the top of old gloves for paws. Kids can make furry animal ears using a headband. Have them cut out triangles from construction paper or poster board. Cut out two triangles for each ear from the craft fur. Glue the triangles to the front and back of the paper triangles. Glue the bottom of the triangles to the headband. Tape the lid down on two shoe boxes. Cut a hole in the top of the lids for a child's feet to slip through. Glue craft fur to the sides and top of the box for furry feet. The kids can play dress up with their new furry accessories.
Masks

Use feathers, yarn, cotton balls and craft puffs to create paper plate animal masks. Cut out two holes for the eyes and one for the mouth on a paper plate. Glue a craft stick to the back of the paper plate or punch holes in the side to tie strings to. The kids can wear the mask or hold it up to their face when they are playing. Glue the yarn, cotton balls or feathers to the mask. Cut out ears from construction paper and glue them to the top of the mask.

Puppets

Turn ordinary household items into furry puppets for kids to put on a puppet show. Give each child a paper lunch bag, construction paper, markers and cotton balls. Have them draw the animal's eyes, nose and legs on the construction paper. Cut out the shapes for the kids or give them safety scissors to use if they are older. Give the kids glue sticks to glue them in place. To make the puppets furry, color cotton balls with markers. Paint may also work, but it will take longer to dry. Glue the fur to the puppet. Yarn and craft puffs can be substituted for cotton balls.
Stuffed Animal

Instead of throwing away a sock without a match, turn it into a stuffed animal. Fill the sock with cotton balls. Stuff the sock about 3/4 of the way. Tie a knot at the end for a tail. Craft puffs can become ears, nose and legs for the animal. Glue on two buttons for eyes. For shaggy fur, glue on 1- or 2-inch pieces of yarn.
