Casual Masquerade Ideas for Women
A masquerade party isn't always a formal affair. The clever use of a few well-chosen accessories can go a long way to create the suggestion of a costume. The energy you save by not fussing over an elaborate look can be spent on having a relaxed, pleasant evening. Does this Spark an idea?

Masks
-
Grab a mask and go. Some feathered and sequined masks are elaborate enough to count as a costume all by themselves. To draw the eye to a beautiful mask, wear simple black clothing without further adornment, except possibly a piece of glittering costume jewelry, such as a ring with a large "bling" stone or a flashy bangle bracelet.
Wigs
-
If you already have a crazy wig, by all means use it. A costume wig instantly grants you another personality and can be combined with a few accessories to form a simple costume. Braid a long blond wig and use a toy sword for a Viking woman look. You can also accessorize with a helmet from a costume store. Combine a long dark wig with a fringed shawl and a black mask for a gypsy look.

Makeup

Paint your face. If you'd rather not wear a mask, use face paint to create one; accent it with metallic paints and face glitter. If you know how to paint your face to resemble a cat or a butterfly, let that be your adornment. If you don't have that kind of skill, choose simpler patterns: hearts, swirls, a peace sign or harlequin checks of alternating colors.
Accessories
-
A cape or a distinctive hat can form the basis for a costume. You can also use jewelry, funky shoes, a lace umbrella, a fan, a shawl or a boa to pull a casual costume together. If you have long hair, pull it up into a bun and put chopsticks through it. Add a silk fan and shawl for an Eastern-inspired costume. Alternatively, throw a black lace scarf over the bun to shift the look to a Spanish-themed costume.
