Qualities of a Good Brother
The qualities that define a good brother may differ from person to person. However, there are certain characteristics that a man or boy should have to qualify him as a good brother. Good brothers will be a positive role model for their siblings and maintain positive interactions with them through good times and bad times.
-
Loyalty
-
A brother should first and foremost maintain loyalty to his siblings. This would include standing up for you during a fight, keeping any family secrets you tell him or not speaking poorly of you to other people. A good brother will have your back and stay true to you in good and bad times.
Respect
-
Respect is an admirable quality for a brother to have and maintain. A good brother will respect not just you, but your thoughts, wishes and other relationships. He will speak to you in a respectful manner even when he disagrees with your lifestyle or choice. A good brother will also be sure other people treat you with dignity and respect.
-
Trust
-
Trust is another important quality for a good brother to possess. You should be able to trust your brother with important information, confident he will keep it to himself when he is asked.
Reliability
-
A good brother will also be a reliable brother. You can count on him to show up and help if you need it; he will not bail on any commitments he has to you or his family. You can depend upon your brother to be there for you in hard times and in fun times, giving you his support when needed.
Sense of Humor
-
A good brother will be a fun brother to be around. You want to be able to laugh and have a good time with your sibling. A brother who can joke around and know when to have fun is a brother you will want to continue to spend time with and be around.
