The warm summer months offer ample opportunities to socialize outside at the beach, at a park or at a backyard barbecue. Layers of clothes and warm hats are replaced by comfortable, light T-shirts. A salon can take advantage of this summer sentiment by offering a variety of promotions that will encourage clients to keep their look fresh for fun in the sun.

Sun Shield

Just as skin can be burned or damaged from too much exposure to sunlight, so can hair. Hair naturally bleaches and lightens with long exposure to the summer sun, and can become dry and damaged. According to experts at Pantene, "UV exposure can break down hair proteins, causing hair to look dull and weaken hair’s tensile and physical properties." Salons can offer a special on deep conditioning all summer long. Consider pricing it at approximately $25 to $40, depending on hair length and thickness. If someone purchases a deep conditioning, she could also receive a 50 percent discount on an intensive conditioner to take home.

Sidewalk Sale

Sidewalk sales are a popular trend among retail stores during the summer months, especially because the warm weather lends itself to more foot traffic. Consider small services that the salon can offer as a sidewalk sale. For example, set up a chair outside and offer trims or touch-ups for $15 to $25, depending on hair length and thickness. Set up a table outside and offer a $15 speed manicure, or set up a chair and offer a 15-minute massage for $15. The short time needed to complete the service will encourage people to stop.

Summer Manicures and Pedicures

More people wear sandals during the summer, exposing their feet, and hands are free of gloves or mittens. As such, manicures and pedicures are more popular during the summer months. A recent trend are color-block French manicures that use two bold colors, one for the base of the nail and one for the tip, instead of traditional white tips. Consider offering a manicure-pedicure combination special, perhaps for $50, that would allow patrons to try out some of the fun summer colors and trends.

Wedding Group Discounts

Statistically, more weddings take place during the summer months than the other three seasons of the year. This is in large part due to the nice weather and increased flexibility to travel. Salons can offer group discounts to wedding parties on services including hair styling, manicures and makeup. Consider a flat rate of $100 per person for all three services, or other combinations contingent upon the number of people in the wedding party.
