When your 174 Delta faucet begins leaking at the base of the spout, it is time to replace the o-rings. Virtually any hardware store will have either the specific o-rings or a Delta Faucet repair kit that will have every part needed. However, the only way to get to the o-rings is to physically remove the actual spout, because they are seated beneath the trim cover at the spout bottom, and no tools at all are required to do this.

Step 1

Turn off the water at the valves located under the kitchen sink. They must be turned in a clockwise rotation, and be sure they are tightly closed before you proceed.

Step 2

Spray lube at the base of the Delta 174 spout and wiggle it slightly to work the lube in. You don't need much; a good one second spray will work.

Step 3

Grasp the spout firmly with both hands. It is held on by a plastic gravity retainer, so wiggle it slightly while turning, and pull it upwards to pull it off.
