Punishments for Teens
Punishing a child is never easy, and it can be especially difficult to find suitable punishments for teenagers. Teenagers are young adults, and while they're still immature in many ways, they do have a measure of independence that younger children don't. They're headstrong and hormonal, and that combination can make them far less likely to listen to adults. Still, there are punishments that can be surprisingly effective on teenagers.

No Phone Privileges
-
This punishment is possibly as old as telephones themselves. A teenager's social life and independence are very important, and the threat of limited or lost phone privileges can seem devastating in the short term. It's a simple punishment, but it's fairly easy to enforce and is surprisingly effective. A cell phone can be taken away and even locked with a password to ensure the teen being punished can't use it.
No Allowance
-
It may be the root of all evil, but there's no denying the fact that money is very important to most people, including teenagers. Unless they're old enough to have jobs, most teenagers still rely on an allowance given to them by their parents, and taking that away can really put a damper on what they can and can't do. Most teenagers understand that few things in life are free, so taking away a teen's allowance can be a good punishment.

Additional Chores
-
It's important that all teens have chores to do; it teaches them responsibility and helps around the house. Most teens hate doing chores, so adding more of them to their to-do list can be used as punishment. For example, a teenager who broke a promise to mow the lawn may have to mow the lawn and weed the garden. This punishment can be doubly effective if the new chore was one previously assigned to a sibling.
Grounding
-
Grounding teens is a punishment that's been around for generations. No one likes to have his freedom taken away, and that especially goes for teenagers. For a teenager with an active social life, not being allowed to leave the house for a week except for school or other related functions can be tough. It's a punishment that can be enough to make teenagers think twice about breaking the rules.
